What to see in St Clements
Spotland was originally known as St Clements Playing Fields, for its proximity to the Church of San Clemente. Having been previously used for the Cricket, it was the home of the St Clements Rugby Club from 1878 to 1897. The oFC Rochdale is from 1907 the user of the field, then bought the absolute domain of the enclosure for £ 1700 in 1914. For when the club is He joined the Football League in 1921, a low wooden tier had been built on the southern side of the field. Also at this time, the name of the surrounding area of the city, Spotland, had been adopted as the name of the stadium.
From 1992 to 2000, the land was completely rebuilt to meet the security demands of the Taylor report, and became what it is today. In the summer of 2006, a new drainage system was installed.
